  • Description

The Vixen 25078 comes with the VMC200L Modified Catadioptric telescope and the Sphinx SX2 equatorial mount. This is a great intermediate level dual-axis drive telescope package that can be upgraded to a Go To mount by simply changing out the hand controller! The Sphinx SX2 mount comes with the Star Book One hand controller for motorized control of both axes. A dual-axis drive telescope is great for visual astronomy, but it can also introduce you to the wonderful world of astrophotography. When combined with the super portable, 8” VMC200L, with its sharp images and unique design, you’ll get a telescope that is great for both visual and imaging applications.

    About the VMC200L Catadioptric Telescope

The Vixen VMC200L Reflector Telescope is a unique 8” modified catadioptric optical system. It incorporates a primary mirror and a meniscus corrector just before a secondary mirror. By doing so, light is corrected twice on the optical path. The end result is that spherical aberration and field curvature are corrected to a high degree of optical performance. The Vixen VMC200L primary mirror is f/2.5; the compound optical system is f/9.75. This makes the system much more compact and portable than its competition. With the optical correction placed before the secondary mirror, the VMC200L avoids the necessity of having a corrector plate and all the dewing problems associated with a closed optical tube. An additional key feature is the rack and pinion focusing that is placed behind the primary mirror. The use of this focusing system eliminates the image shift associated with most other SCT systems. This is especially important when using high power magnification or during astro-photography. When focusing, the image is stable and easy to adjust.

About the Vixen Sphinx SX2 Mount

The Vixen Sphinx SX2 Equatorial Mount is simple to operate and sets up in minutes. One bolt secures it to the tripod. Beginners and seasoned hobbyists will benefit from the portability of the Vixen SX2, the easy-to-use STAR BOOK One controller, and the ability to download future upgrades directly to the controller.

The SX2 equatorial mount with dual-axis drive attaches to a variety of telescopes with the Vixen universal dovetail plate. The short profile declination head and internal motors greatly improve balance and motion around the RA axis, guaranteeing precise motor control. Small telescopes require no additional counterweights due to the internal placement of the the RA and DEC motors. The counterweight shaft retracts into the SX2 mount body for storage when not in use.

STAR BOOK ONE & HAL-130 Tripod Features

The STAR BOOK ONE Controller is a dual axis handheld controller. The 4 buttons on the controller move the mount electrically in the X and Y axis (RA and DEC). The controller includes a built in red LED light for illumination to avoid loosing night vision. Versatile tracking options are available; sidereal rate, Kings Rate, lunar rate, and solar rate. Different tracking speeds are available for time lapse photography. The controller works in both the northern and southern hemispheres. Backlash compensation provides reduced time lag at the point of reverse motion and the controller can be used for auto guiding with an auto guider compatible with SBIG auto guiders. PEC rectifies irregular motion of the tracking gear wheels that affect long exposure astrophotography.

The HAL130 Tripod provides ample stability and has no wobble points in its design. The HAL130 has a large base to carry the Sphinx SX2 mount. The tripod extends from 32" to 51" (81cm to 130cm) and weighs 12 lb.(5.5 kg).
