  • Description

Increase the enjoyment of your telescope with the Zhumell 1.25” Eyepiece and Filter Kit! This 13-piece telescope accessory kit includes four 1.25” eyepieces, a 2x Barlow lens, and a total of seven planetary and lunar filters, all stored in an aluminum case with custom cut foam.

    Four Plossl 1.25 inch eyepieces

With your telescope and some high power eyepieces, like the Zhumell 4mm, 6mm and 12.5mm Plossl models included in this kit, you’ll be able to bring objects closer, whether it be the Moon, planets or deep-sky objects like galaxies, star clusters, and nebulae. A 32mm Plossl eyepiece is also included so that you can lower your magnification and widen the field of view for extra large objects.

Double your pleasure with a 2x Barlow

The 2x Barlow lens included in the Zhumell 1.25” Eyepiece and Filter Kit will soon become your favorite telescope accessory! It’s easy to use; just insert the 2x Barlow into your telescope’s focuser or diagonal and then insert your choice of eyepiece into the Barlow. Let’s say you are using an eyepiece that gives you 100x magnification on its own. If you choose to insert that eyepiece into your 2x Barlow, you will get double the magnification, or 200x. This works for any eyepiece that has a 1.25” barrel, which means that if you have four eyepieces and a Barlow, you will have eight magnification choices! Its like having eight eyepieces, but for a lot less money. Just remember that there is such a thing as too much magnification. If you put a high powered eyepiece in the Barlow and you cannot get it to focus clearly, that is too much magnification for your telescope at that moment. On another night, or at a different location, you may find that you can use that eyepiece/Barlow combination; it all depends on how good your seeing conditions are at any moment in time.

See more detail on the planets with color filters

Planetary filters come in different colors, and the Zhumell 1.25” Eyepiece and Filter Kit includes a nice selection so that you can bring out details on all of the observable planets in our Solar System. Each of these filters threads onto the barrel of your 1.25” eyepieces, or even your 2x Barlow lens. It is very similar to using a filter on a camera lens, except that in astronomy, we are trying to see the equatorial bands on Jupiter or the ice caps on Mars. Here is a list of the filters you’ll receive and which planets they will work best on:

#12 Yellow: Yellow filters help greatly in viewing Mars by bringing out the polar ice caps, enhancing blue clouds in the atmosphere, increasing contrast, and brightening desert regions. Yellow also enhances red and orange features on Jupiter and Saturn and darkens the blue festoons near Jupiter's equator.

#21 Orange: An orange filter helps increase contrast between light and dark areas, penetrates clouds, and assists in detecting dust storms on Mars. Orange also helps to bring out the Great Red Spot and sharpen contrast on Jupiter.

#23A Light Red: Light red filters help to make Mercury and Venus stand out from the blue sky when viewed during the day. Used in large telescopes, light red sharpens boundaries and increases contrast on Mars, sharpens belt contrast on Jupiter, and brings out surface detail on Saturn. This filter is recommended for telescopes with apertures of at least 6” due to a hefty decrease in light transmission.

#56 Light Green: Light green enhances frost patches, surface fogs, and polar projections on Mars, the ring system on Saturn, belts on Jupiter and works as a great general purpose filter when viewing the Moon.

#82A Light Blue: Light blue functions much the same as #80A Blue while maintaining overall image brightness. Light blue will also help to increase structure detail when looking at galaxies.

    Increase contrast or cut glare

This Zhumell telescope accessory kit includes a 1.25” polarizing filter. The polarizing filter screws onto the barrel of any 1.25” eyepiece, just like the planetary filters. You will find that this filter is very versatile. You can use it to cut glare when viewing the Moon, but it will also tend to increase contrast when viewing many astronomical objects. If you have the type of telescope that works well for terrestrial use, the polarizing filter will cut glare over water or objects that glint in the Sun. On a bright, sunny day, you will notice an increase in contrast and more comfortable daytime observing if you attach a polarizing filter to your diagonal, Barlow, or eyepiece.

Everybody needs a Moon Filter! The first time someone looks at the Moon through a telescope, they are surprised at its brightness. The Full Moon is so bright, it can actually be unpleasant to look at through an unshielded eyepiece. This is where a Moon Filter comes in. Screw it onto the barrel of any 1.25” eyepiece and this filter will decrease light transmission and cut glare while keeping the natural color of the Moon intact.
