  • Description

The Celestron PowerSeeker 80AZ is designed with large, fast 80mm optics resulting in brighter objects and a nice, wide field of view.

You will love using your Celestron PowerSeeker 80AZS during the day as well as at night. The included erect image diagonal is perfect for terrestrial viewing, because unlike the standard diagonal found on many of today’s telescopes, an image erect diagonal keeps objects right side up and left-to-right correct. This means you can use your telescope to enjoy magnified views of nature during the day and then swing it skyward once the sun goes down. And because the PowerSeeker 80AZS is so portable and lightweight, it can easily accompany you on camping trips, on visits to National Parks, or pretty much anywhere!

See objects at different magnifications with included eyepieces

Unlike the fixed magnification of most binoculars or spotting scopes, this 80mm telescope can see objects at different magnifications by simply changing the eyepiece. The Celestron PowerSeeker 80AZS telescope comes with two full-sized, 1.25 inch eyepieces that will give you 20X and 100X magnification right out of the box, but because this telescope uses standard eyepieces and accessories, it is easy and relatively inexpensive to add other visual accessories to your observing collection when you’re ready to extend your telescope’s functionality.

Easy to use alt-azimuth mount & tripod mount

An alt-azimuth mount, simply put, allows you to move your telescope up, down, right, or left. The head on a camera tripod is almost always an alt-azimuth mount of some sort, and so you have probably used one before without realizing it. It takes just a few minutes to learn how to unlock the mount and glide the telescope in the direction you want to go—even a child can use an alt-azimuth mount on their own once they get the hang of it.

Speaking of children, the PowerSeeker 80AZ short tube refractor is a great telescope for kids. It would be a welcome addition for home-schooling, or simply supporting the astronomy lessons in elementary school. The adjustable aluminum tripod can be lowered to support shorter observers, and the diagonal can be turned sideways to make it easier for youngsters to look through. However, because the Celestron PowerSeeker 80AZS offers more light-gathering and magnification capability than many introductory telescopes, you will find that this model is a good choice for adults as well.
