  • Description

Vixen has reworked the design and manufacture of its innovative SXD Mount, creating the SXD2 German Equatorial Mount. The SXD2 Mount has a greater loading capacity and is more rigid enabling a more steady platform for astrophotography. The quieter stepping motors ensure you of smooth, quiet slewing with quick response to commands. Both the RA and DEC Axes are made of sturdy steel with brass wheel gears. With the included STARBOOK ONE controller, you will have easy control over both the RA and DEC axis for astrophotography as well as visual use.

Smooth RA and DEC Movement : The inside of the new SXD2 is very different from the previous SX Mounts. Bearings have been added to the shafts of the RA and DEC axes and the screw gear shafts. The worm screw gears are inspected for strict concentricity and are lapped in the whole-circle for smooth movement.

Increased Loading Capacity: Both the RA and DEC Axes are made of sturdy steel with brass wheel gears. This enables the mount to carry loads of up to 50 lb. (including counterweights) for the visual observer and 33 lb. for astrophotography.

STAR BOOK ONE & HAL-130 Tripod Features

The STAR BOOK ONE Controller is a dual axis handheld controller. The 4 buttons on the controller move the mount electrically in the X and Y axis (RA and DEC). The controller includes a built in red LED light for illumination to avoid loosing night vision. Versatile tracking options are available; sidereal rate, Kings Rate, lunar rate, and solar rate. Different tracking speeds are available for time lapse photography. The controller works in both the northern and southern hemispheres. Backlash compensation provides reduced time lag at the point of reverse motion and the controller can be used for auto guiding with an auto guider compatible with SBIG auto guiders. PEC rectifies irregular motion of the tracking gear wheels that affect long exposure astrophotography.

The HAL130 Tripod provides ample stability and has no wobble points in its design. The HAL130 has a large base to carry the Sphinx SXP mount. The tripod extends from 32" to 51" (81cm to 130cm) and weighs 12 lb.(5.5 kg).
