  • Description

Designed for the astrophotographer, the Vixen Sphinx SXP Equatorial Mount builds on leading edge innovations developed through decades of experience designing German Equatorial Mounts. With the included STARBOOK ONE controller, you will have easy control over both the RA and DEC axis for astrophotography as well as visual use. The Vixen SXP Mount has a maximum loading weight of 35 lb. for astrophotography and 50 lb. for the visual observer.

    Vixen Sphinx SXP Mount Features

Motors: The Sphinx SXP Mount features pulse motors designed to react smoothly and accurately. The micro slow motion control assures you of smooth operation.

R.A and DEC: The R.A. and DEC wheels have 180 teeth. They are high precision machined wheels and worm gears made of brass for the most accurate tracking possible. The R.A. and DEC shafts are comprised of strong carbon steel. The rotational parts have 15 bearings. All this provides smooth tracking and slewing.

Unique Mount Design: The Vixen Sphinx SXP Mount is designed so that the mount body acts as part of the counterweight system.

Periodic Error Correction: Data from your input is saved for your next observing session.

Polar Axis Scope: The Sphinx SXP Mount includes a built-in 6x20 polar axis scope. It features a bubble level, illuminated reticle, and setting accuracy within 3 minutes.

Time Graduation Circle: 10 Minute Increments Date Graduation Circle: 2 Day Increments

Meridian Offset Circle: Adjustable between E20 deg and W20 deg in 5 deg increments

Northern Hemisphere: Polaris pattern with reticle (Applicable to year 2025)

Southern Hemisphere: Octantal 4 stars pattern with reticle

STAR BOOK ONE & HAL-130 Tripod Features

The Vixen Star Book One Controller is a dual axis hand-held controller. The 4 buttons on the controller move the mount electrically in the X and Y axis (RA and DEC). The controller includes a built in red LED light for illumination to avoid loosing night vision. Versatile tracking options are available; sidereal rate, Kings Rate, lunar rate, and solar rate. Different tracking speeds are available for time lapse photography. The controller works in both the northern and southern hemispheres. Backlash compensation provides reduced time lag at the point of reverse motion and the controller can be used for auto guiding with an auto guider compatible with SBIG auto guiders. PEC rectifies irregular motion of the tracking gear wheels that affect long exposure astrophotography.

The HAL130 Tripod provides ample stability and has no wobble points in its design. The HAL130 has a large base to carry the Sphinx SXP mount. The tripod extends from 32" to 51" (81cm to 130cm) and weighs 12 lb.(5.5 kg).
